History:
David Roger Arias was born on March 21, 2013; everything after that is history!
David likes to think of his relationships with his siblings as close, intimate, warm and equitable. In reality, he is quite a bit younger than most of his siblings. His only brother, Angelo, is 11 years older; Luisa, his oldest sister, is 9 years his senior; Andra, his middle sister, is 6 years older; and Maria, his closest sibling, is 3 years ahead of him. As such, David lives in a false sense of reality, desiring his connections with his siblings to be stronger than they are, and knowing subconsciously that they are not. This desire for intimacy with his siblings began when he was 3 years old - old enough to know that Angelo didn't live at home. David watched and learned from his sisters and his grandparents and Dad, figuring out from them how to be himself in this strange world. Half of his grandparental unit came to visit him twice a year, and they spoke a mixture of English and Spanish. His abuelo and abuela made sure that he knew them through a variety of media forms (Skype, Facetime, Whats App, etc.) when they were at their home in Guatemala, but they made a lot of time for him as well when they visited during the New Year and Christmas holidays. David looked up to his Dad to help him navigate through life as a boy among many women, but he always wished that Angelo had been the big brother who showed him his way through life.
David's most complicated relationship is with his Mom, the well-known explorer/researcher/female Indiana Jones, Aphra James . Though not distant in their relationship with each other, David and Aphra "love from afar". Aphra was not very present in his life, due to her demanding work schedule and her ambitious nature. When she was around, David felt loved and cared for; he always wished she would be around more, so those feelings of love and care weren't fleeting. He describes himself as a "Daddy's boy".
In his early years, David loved to read and be creative. He would spend hours dreaming up games for his friends to play, and he'd always have a new twist and turn for them to experience as the stories he created would unfold. In fourth grade, he began to write these stories down, fearing he would forget them. His mother's sense of preservationism appeared to be a trait of David's as well. It was at this time that he began to form a future vision of himself as a writer...or, at least, as someone who could make a living off creating stories. He pursued acting in his fifth grade of Primary School, but he decided that he didn't like it as much as he liked creating stories. He became an avid cartoonist and began to take lessons in pencil sketching and charcoal drawing from a private tutor. David continues to work on his art, even after being accepted to Hogwarts and discovering that he had a life that involved magical arts - a creativity he'd not considered before.
At Hogwarts, things changed dramatically for David, and the change started with the Sorting Hat's words to him before he was sorted. The Sorting Hat probed his mind and found something in there that it chose to reveal to him but that David didn't want to know (or accept). It told him to find the courage in his heart to live into this hidden truth and to see it not as a weakness but as a strength. David has not yet figured out how to turn this thing, which continues to grow inside his mind to this day, into a rallying cry for courage. His life has changed a lot because of the doubt and insecurity the Hat revealed to him. As such, David hasn't made a lot of friends for fear that they will find out his hidden truth, but the friends he has made have impacted his life in many healthy ways.
David continues to want to make art in his life and to share his joy of creativity with others.
Personality and Fun facts: {2 good sized paragraphs: 6-8 sentences each}
David spent a lot of his childhood dreaming up a life that was more comfortable than the life he was living. He used art to create and externalize this ideal world, and as a result, he didn't share much of it with others. David's world; population: 1. His dreaminess could be cut through by his abuelo, with whom he had a very affectionate relationship. Abuelito Berto won this relationship with his grandson by taking him into the Amazonian jungle for a two-day adventure. David remembers this moment fondly, even though it was an effort on Alberto's part to help his grandson see the value in making friends. David wasn't so good at that; he is a kind and caring boy, but he has the tendency to be quiet and keep to himself. In the friendships he has made during school, he's invested only half of himself, his time and his energy into developing these relationships. Many of his friends have fallen out of relationship with him because he doesn't seem to show he likes them.
David occasionally feels lonely, but if his isolation gets too overbearing, he slips away into his jungle world, population: 1. In recent years, David has made a greater effort to come out of his isolationist tendencies and make more friendships. His first few years at Hogwarts don't reflect this effort well because his friendships were being forged with students much older than him, who within two years were graduated out of the school. As he's entered his fourth and fifth years, David has been trying to let people into his world in the hopes that they will care enough about him to help him come out of it himself. And always at the back of his mind is the fear that someone he trusts and loves will figure out his secret and abandon him. This he fears most of all. He uses art to make the world in his head exist in the world around him. His art is beautiful, and his mind is beautiful too. Knowing these things makes his shyness all the more devastating.
Physical Description:
David takes after his Spanish and Guatemalan heritage in skin tone and his voice is lightly accented. He isn't skinny but he isn't buff either. He has a chest and some minor toning in his physique, but he'd never be considered a supermodel (or any type of model in the fashion world). He has enough hair on his head to mess around with, but he cuts it (himself!) short.

Walking down the street was hard for him still. He felt so exposed being out in public, even though his sisters told him he had nothing to worry about. "Davy, you're a hunk. Everyone knows it but YOU!" Andra said every time he protested about going anywhere. He didn't see a hunk staring back at him when he looked in the mirror. So, walking toward the art studio, though an obvious plus in David's world, was just about the longest and most unnerving walk he could take. Today's lesson was going to be pencil sketching still life. David wasn't very excited to be sketching flowers or pieces of fruit sitting on a plate in the middle of a table: that was boring. He would get it over with quickly and then sketch something he liked that was more interesting. Like the mole on Todd's neck that had irritated David at the beginning of the class, but that now have him an excuse to do sketch studies of his classmate's silhouette. Todd wasn't exactly aware he was being sketched, but that was half the fun of it.
David entered the studio quickly - he'd sped up his pace the last two blocks after a couple of cute girls had accosted him and asked, suggestively, what he was up to tonight - and found his seat. He was still so flustered by the gaul of those total strangers to want to know his private business that he didn't take in his surroundings. Once all his pencils and his sketchbook were in their place on his desk, he looked up and turned beet red. Instead of a boring side table in the center of the room, there was a simple chair. What sort of still life were they sketching? The tutor came in brusquely and took a seat at his own desk, causing a slight hush in the conversations David's classmates were enjoying. "Before we begin," the man said suddenly. "Any questions?" David had at least one, and he raised his hand, still blushing. "Yes?"
"Erm, what sort of still life are we sketching today, sir? I see only a chair." His classmates giggled, and the tutor smirked as well.
"Yes, David, good question. You see, there's been a minor change in the schedule, which you might've been aware of if you'd been paying less attention to Todd," more giggles, "and more attention to me following our lesson last week. You see, we are not studying still life this week or next week," the tutor grinned wider, making David feel like there was some sort of joke he was not privy to. "Rather, we will be studying this..." he concluded, motioning to a dressing screen David had failed to spot upon entry. Someone was behind it, stepping out of something that sounded like clothing. David blushed harder as he put the pieces together. "This life is rather not still," the tutor teased, his voice hardly controlled in its jeering. "It's quite active." The figure behind the screen stepped out into full view, and David was ready to melt into the floor, for standing before him and the rest of the class was Todd, neck mole and all, wearing nothing but a tight pair of briefs.
