Aros Orphe, a dark wizard of one of the highest calibers that belonged to a small yet devious criminal syndicate, escaped the growing hostilities of Great Britain just after the muggle and magical world collided seemingly overnight. He, along with a few associates and colleagues, fled to the closed-off region of Tibet, seeking sanctuary away from the Aurors, Hitwizards, and Dark Wizard Hunters. They found it within the magical city of Shangri-La, a hallowed city of peace and prosperity that was hidden from the muggle world deep within the Kunlun mountains. Unbeknownst to the inhabitants of the city, they weren't aware of the intentions of the devils that they had purposely allowed in. Now safe from the far reaching hands of the Ministry, the group watched from the mystical city as the magical world was shoved into the spotlight.
As the magical world continued its steady decline, the group's influence started to grow. It quickly began once they reached out into the underbelly of neighboring China's underworld. They aimed their sights into becoming the most feared and respected criminal organization. With this goal in mind, Nox Aeterna was formed. With Aros declared as Nox Aeterna's de-facto leader, the organization began a wide recruiting spree that promised power, fame, and great fortune to those who joined their cause. With the financial situation in both muggle and magical world becoming more dire, the organization had no trouble finding others to fight for their cause. From within the peaceful city of Shangri-La grew a deadly power that wished to cover the rest of the world.
Nox Aeterna heard hushed whispers of the growing criminal activity within the country of Italy and wished to stake their own claim for the spoils. With an ultimate goal in mind, Nox Aeterna left the now seedy and corrupted Shangri-La and cut a bloody swath through the East. As they made their way to Italy, cutting through India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and the rest of Middle East, the organization demolished any criminal opposition they faced, taking over any financial opportunities as their spoils of war. Through the use of their newly gained monetary resources, well-placed bribes, and quiet assassinations, the organization was able to keep their name out of the major foreign headlines, using the magical world's crisis as their own personal cloak of invisibility. As they moved past the Middle East, Nox Aeterna were able to gain major footholds within Ukraine's and Romania's underworld through double dealings, power plays, and casual backstabbing (sometimes literally). When they felt secure in their new territories, the organization sent the bulk of their forces to the fray happening within Italy, battling other warring criminal factions for the right to rule.
Darius and Rinel Orphe were born to an aristocratic Italian muggle woman who was very attracted to Aros' dark nature and relished in his advances. She was forced to give the children up to Aros quickly after childbirth as the wizard wanted to be the sole person taking care of the children. Ever the pragmatist, Aros used his influence to banish the mother of his children away from Italy, not wanting the woman to cloud his children's future within Nox Aeterna. The children were raised without knowing the love their mother had for them as well as never even knowing her name.
Darius was raised within the crime infested streets of Italy, namely Rome where most of the infighting between the larger criminal syndicates had taken place. The boy was shocked to see the horrors of poverty that had befallen Italy during the period of financial crisis. This experience was juxtaposed by the lavish wealth that many criminals had and almost seemed to flaunt. It intrigued Darius at the sheer difference between the blood and social classes as well as how the gangsters that littered Italy were both vilified and worshiped. As a child, he was thrust into the hectic ongoings of Nox Aeterna as his father led them in a free-for-all for power. Darius was taught to obey every order given by Aros as fear was an excellent motivator and teacher. Though Darius was quick to pick up the lessons that Aros taught him, it simply didn't interest him enough to keep his attention for long. Unfortunately for Darius, Aros often mistakenly interpreted his boredom for weakness and would be punished.
Rinel, on the other hand, had easily taken to Aros' methods and teachings. Where Darius failed to keep interest in the topic, Rinel took to it like a bird to flight. She was able handle the stress and the heavy-handed way that Aros taught. She was everything that Darius should have been and possibly even more. Rinel was able to show the cruelty and guile that Darius simply couldn't manage. Despite the difference between the two siblings, Darius and Rinel were very close. Without their mother and the sheer indifference that their father had for them caused the two children to simply rely on each other and no one else. If a lesson from Aros was particular hard, they would work on it together until they both mastered it. The bonds they shared were strong and it only grew stronger through adversity.
Just a few months before the twins turned eleven, Aros decided to relocate once again to Great Britain with all the needed necessary documents that were expedited for his children and himself, another benefit his position as leader of Nox Aeterna gave him. He left the majority of his forces within Italy, took a few of his most trusted lieutenants along with his children, and acted as advanced guard within Great Britain. The small group would make sure the transition to Great Britain would be smooth once Nox Aeterna declared victory over Italy, despite facing still heavy resistance within the Italian province of Rome. Once in Great Britain, the family bought a manor within Wiltshire, England, and continued to quietly expand their criminal ventures. Once the twins were eleven, they were accepted into Hogwarts.
During the summer before the twins' fourth year, Aros forced the them into a duel to see what they have learned so far as well as to judge their skill. Though Darius didn't want to face his sister, Rinel was all too glad to show her worth to her father in hopes of him finally taking her seriously. Though they both wanted to win due to the spirit of competition that was inherent to the both of them, Darius was shocked at the sheer power Rinel was putting into her spells. As the duel was winding down, Darius was caught by a Bludgeoner spell that penetrated his defenses, knocking him to the floor and breaking two of his ribs in the process. Angered by Rinel's sweet smile and Aros' mocking laughter, Darius rose and responded with a vicious Cutting spell. Though Rinel managed to bring up a Protego spell, the anger within his Cutter overpowered her shield and caught her in the neck, cleanly slicing her carotid artery. As she lay bleeding out and dying on the floor, Darius tried every possible healing spell he could possibly think of but was too weak from the duel for them to take effect. He tearfully urged his father to save his sister but Aros simply turned his back on the two, stating that he would not abide weaklings within his house, regardless if they were his children or not. Rinel died, gurgling her last words to Darius ("It's quiet here, brother. Brother...?") while that sweet smile still lingered on her bloodied lips.
Aros was able to explain his daughter's death by indicating that it was an unfortunate training exercise that went all wrong. Through a few greased palms and personal threats made by Nox Aeterna, Darius' name was kept out of The Daily Prophet. When Darius went back to Hogwarts for his fourth year, he closed himself off from everyone and spent most of his time within the library. He had regular nightmares about his sister and caused him to be sleep-deprived. Darius often heard her voice whispering to him, haunting every thought he had to the point where he heard her even during his waking moments. It was both a blessing and a curse to hear her often in his head, though he bears his cross as to not disrespect her memory.
During his self-exile to the Hogwarts library, Darius encountered the stories of Gellert Grindelwald and, more importantly, his studies and application of necromancy. He read about the army of Inferi that Grindelwald supposedly controlled. Though Darius had no interest in controlling a zombie army, he was very interested in the possibility of reviving just one particular person: His sister. Day and night of his fourth year he browsed each book relating to the studies of Grindelwald and necromancy, though he made sure that absolutely no one caught him for he knew that there would be no way of explaining his new found fascination with that particular branch of dark magicks. Through his studies, he realized that Inferi were imperfect creations that had no free will and couldn't think for themselves, basically a mere shade of the actual person they were trying to raise. Apparently, it was also written that the true necromancy, the ability to resurrect the dead with their soul, intelligence, and personality intact, was impossible and, therefore, a useless chase. Despite this knowledge, he committed himself to the study and continued to search for a way to bring his sister back from the grave.
In the summer before his fifth year at Hogwarts, Darius made a breakthrough with his studies. One of Nox Aeterna's henchmen had been present as a Slytherin during the Battle of Hogwarts that took place on May 2nd, 1998. The man noticed Darius' increasing interest in Grindelwald's biography and let known that he owned something that would interest the young man. During Hogwart's evacuation, the man found one of Albus Dumbledore's personal journals regarding the man known as Gellert Grindelwald. The man offered to let Darius borrow the book for a few months if the young man put in a good word with his father for him. Darius agreed and the book was lent to him. The man who lent Darius the book died soon after in a bombing that took place in the United Kingdom.
The journal that the man left Darius was burnt, missing pages, and was almost nearly incomprehensible. The only thing that saved the book was that immaculate handwriting that seemed definitely belong to Albus Dumbledore. Any portion of the journal that was legible seemed to be something that Darius knew about Grindelwald. As he was about to call it quits on the journal, Darius noticed the fake back cover hiding a lone piece of unburnt parchment. The parchment only held a lone sentence - "Hogwarts has his grimoire now. True necromancy shall never besmirch the world. -AD."
With a newfound resolve and purpose to find Grindelwald's Grimoire, Darius went back to Hogwarts for his fifth year…
…The only problem with this plan of his was the simple fact that he was unable to discover a hint or even a mention of the grimoire within Hogwarts. Darius spent a majority of his fifth and sixth year searching for the fabled tome and came up empty handed. The Slytherin sank deeper into his frustrations as time continued on, and it didn’t help that his sister’s specter continued to haunt him compounded with the fact that his destiny still belonged to his father’s criminal organization. This pressure levied upon him brought his sanity to the brink, but Darius was able to pull himself back before the abyss.
He focused on his schoolwork and the sole good relationship – at least for a Slytherin’s standard –placing his the legend of the grimoire to the back of his mind. During the summer heading into his seventh year, he decided on an impromptu trip around the world with Audra, wishing to stave off the plans his father had for him as well as indulging himself with the companionship of someone that managed to worm her way into his heart. When he returned home, his father punished him by beating him mercilessly and carving the word ‘obedience’ with a cursed blade into his skin. The man continued to stress the boy’s role in the organization and informed him that Darius would die before leaving Nox Aeterna.
Darius managed to secure the role of Head Boy within his seventh year. He used this status of his to his own benefit, though he slowly warmed up to the title. His final year of Hogwarts was mostly quiet, though amped up in the latter portions of it. When Diagon Alley was bombed by muggles, his father was one of many that died in the attack. This event absolutely broke Darius for despite how the man treated his own son, Aros had still been his father. It also certainly didn’t help when Darius himself was caught in an attack within Hogwarts, though he manage to escape any life-threatening injuries with only a concussion. This series of events fueled his hatred for all muggles and muggleborns and birthed the idea of retribution within his heart.
Despite how valiantly he fought against a future within Nox Aeterna, he took the mantle of leadership after graduation. Though he realized it far too late, he knew that this was his legacy and there was no escaping that. He envisioned the organization overtaking all of the other criminal empires within the British Isles and seizing it for their own. After that, he was going to lay waste to all those connected to his father’s death and bring his fury down upon them…
Personality Description:
Darius is a reserved young man with incredibly deep trust issues. He has a very hard time opening up to people and he can’t help himself from seeing others as just another person to take advantage of. Though he seems to be the prim and perfect man on paper, a darker side of him lurks within, something that he often immerses himself in from time to time when it is necessary. Darius knows all of the sordid tale of his family’s history pertaining to Nox Aeterna and embraces it completely now. Now as the de facto leader of the criminal organization, he is both anxious and excited to see where his path will lead him now.
The young man is very intelligent and would prefer to stay indoors to study the nature of magic than to socialize with others his own age. He is a conniving individual and is not afraid to play puppet master, manipulating others and events to his own whims. Despite this, he still maintains a sense of honour that hadn’t existed within his father.
One of Darius’ greatest weakness is his deceased sister. If anyone says a bad thing about Rinel a switch gets turned on within him, urging him to a violent outburst regardless of the consequences. Though he is still haunted by his sister’s specter, it is manageable and no longer affects his sanity. Still, Darius endeavors to find any way to bring her back to life and is still a life goal.
Physical Description:
Height: 6’0’’
Weight/Build: Tall and slim
Skin Tone: Fair, somewhat pale
Hair Color and Style: Ebony black hair that is often combed back to perfection
Eye Color: Chocolate brown

Darius is a tall, young man with brown eyes the colour of warm chocolate, and they often shine with curiosity and ambition. His sleek black hair was once long and often brushed against his shoulders, but now it’s cut somewhat short and is usually slicked backwards in a hairstyle that has a very expensive upkeep. He has a fake, mechanical smile that was achieved through mimicking others and through practice – with the help of his sister - in front of a mirror, though his real smile often comes out when he’s pleased with something or if he is in the presence of someone he holds dear. He has long fingers that seem to grasp and not grab, and are used to delicate work like transfiguration or charms. While he tends to shy away from brute spell work, he is not afraid to let loose once in awhile. Darius is usually clean-shaven and always appears to be neat and tidy, both with his looks and his clothes. He has the word ‘obedience’ carved upon his chest, a hideous scar given to him by his own father using a cursed knife. He wears expensive suits and robes that represent his status as the newly minted kingpin of Nox Aeterna. Darius also wears a small, circular gold locket that contains a picture of Rinel, his deceased sister. After taking on the mantle of leadership within Nox Aeterna, he was given tattoos by the elder members of the organization to signify his role and the importance it plays within the criminal enterprise.

Special Talents: Darius is exceptionally skilled in the art of transfiguration. Turning an inanimate object into something animate comes easily to him, and he uses this branch of magic very offensively in training situations and dueling. He can also read any boring book of any size or topic and can find it fun and interesting to decipher. Darius also excels in magical theory and loves spending time trying to figure out new concepts and finding solutions to problems.
RP Example: The manor was silent as death when the hooded figure pushed his way through the great double doors. Keen eyes of chocolate brown peered out from underneath the hood, staring at the many figures that lined up into two rows on either side of him. His footsteps were muffled by the luxurious carpet that had been laid earlier beneath him. There was a quiet sense of foreboding the lingered within the air of the place, though he ignored this feeling by focusing his attention to his heart thumping a rapid tattoo against his chest. Darius continued down the hallway of the building, his eyes focused on a closed door that waited patiently for him ahead.
Memories of his life slipped up from the cracks of his brain as the former snake walked down the hallway. His mind gravitated towards thoughts of his deceased sister and slain father and the door loomed ever closer like the blade of a guillotine. The figures around him continued to stare at the young man, their eyes wide underneath their own hood. Once he reached the door and clasped the knob in a sweaty hand, all of the figures in conjunction uttered a phrase underneath their breath.
Nox Aeterna.
He pushed through the door and stared at the study room before him. It was devoid of any personality and life, a testament to his father, the one that owned the room before him. Now it was his – one of his birthrights. The “throne” of the criminal organization was now his, and the fate of his men was placed within the palm of his hand. He circled around the desk of the study and sat on a oversized leather chair, a sigh of relaxation escaping his lips. Darius stared out at the figures outside of the door and rolled his eyes as they bowed to him.
“Get back to work.” His words were firm and harsh, with no room for any sort of lip. He closed the door with a wave of his hand, the wandless magic emanating from his fingertips. A wide smile blossomed up from his lips as the door shut close.
It was good to be king.
