Upon graduation from Hogwarts, Dylan travelled a far part of the world getting first hand experience on things rather than just reading textbooks. Returning home a few years later busting with stories of his experience Dylan began writing about what he knew best, History. He has written numerous books about the subject. He taught Home schooled Wizard Children History of Magic for a few years. Dylan continued on in his career as a Historian for roughly fifteen years. He also has a thesis he had written on the workings of magical inventions, and their histories.
History: Brought up in the city as an only child, living with his mother and father until his father, John, was killed by a Werewolf in a brutal attack when he was 5 years old as his father was the out on work with Aurors who were trying to capture a Werewolf who had proven to be incredibly dangerous. John Marshal was called in as he was an expert in the field of Magical Creatures. He lived in a rough area of London. His Mother brought him up teaching him about magic. His mother worked in the Leaky Cauldron as a Barmaid earning little money.
As a child, he was more interested in learning about the past than having fun with his friends; on the contrary, he found learning fun. He spent most of his youth as a reclusive child, mostly with his head in a book, and not going outside unless it was necessary.
As he aged, his repertoire of books forced him to make his own bookcases, and developed a knack for building things with Muggle tools. At the same time, he grew very knowledgeable of the past.
Dylan got his letter when he was eleven, and as his mother earned little money, he had to get second-hand robes and books, but had enough money for his wand. He attended Hogwarts, and was sorted in to Gryffindor, although would have liked to have been a Ravenclaw. He was a hit with girls, and had several relationships with girls in his year, the year above and below, and the other houses. He showed a great interest in History of Magic, Charms, Transfiguration and DADA, but mainly History of Magic.
Third year of Hogwarts, one of Dylan’s friends was being bullied by a group of the meaner, richer Students in the year above who were the type who hated Muggle-born wizards, having been from the type of pureblood families who had nurtured their children to hate people with Muggle parents. His friend was Muggle-born, and he would not stand for the way these other students were treating his friend. Normally, he was not one to condone violence, but he felt that the only way that he would get rid of these people would be if he challenged their leader to a duel, with the winning terms being that they left him and his friend alone. In the end, the reason he won was because of a well-cast Protego Charm, which he used to successfully reflect his opponent’s Stupifying charm, knocking him out. This gained Dylan a lot of respect from his peers and teachers.
Every time he had a relationship, they only got to a certain point. It was always at the stage that he told them about the insecurities of his caused by the attack in his past. They never wanted to hear about it, and they always broke up with him. So he grew to take life as it came, and live each day to its fullest.
Once he left Hogwarts, his mother told him about a sum of money that his father had left him in his will so that he could travel and become properly educated. As he loved the history of wizards and the wizarding world; History of magic was his favourite subject in school, actually; he travelled to the main history museums, such as the magic section of the National History Museum in America. He went on many expeditions with the Wizards that worked there, and gained a vast amount of knowledge of the past, and the history of wizards and magic through these expeditions. In between expeditions with the museums he preferred to do extra research on history in libraries, earning money by working in these museums and libraries. He decided that he would not try to find love in his travels, as it would only interfere with his travelling, and vice versa. He decided to send his mother money while he was on these travels, so that she could benefit from the money his father left him behind.
One of Dylan’s favourite topics from his best subject was the history of magical inventions and their inventors, so when he visited the Romanian Museum of Inventions, he jumped at the chance to do research with them. He even wrote a thesis on the inventions, and their functions and creators. This thesis was included when he applied for the position of Professor of History of Magic.
After spending a few years with them, he felt as though something was missing. He missed the classes of Hogwarts, and the people in them. And so he got the desire to move back to England, and his old friends, who welcomed him with open arms. His desire to pass on his knowledge to others intensified, and so he decided to get the qualifications to be a teacher.
Personality Description: After they heard about how he lost his father to the werewolf attack, most people in Hogwarts would expect Dylan to be reclusive; a loner. However, once he came to Hogwarts, he was the opposite. He is excellent at getting and keeping friends, and was even a role model to some. He was the type of person who always went out of his way to help others, and was the best friend of many. He was kind, loving, and never judged people without getting to know them first. This makes him a hit with the ladies.
He is quirky and very open minded, always saying what he is thinking, when he thinks it. He has always lived each day to its fullest, and has always taken life as it came, and didn’t plan too far ahead unless said plans were with another person. He is also good to joke with, but when it comes to his job, he takes it very seriously. He loves to pass on his knowledge to younger people, which is one of the main contributing factors to his choice of work. He tried his hardes with work, and wants to make his father proud.
He had many Muggle-born friends in Hogwarts, and he always felt personally offended when people used the derogatory term “mudblood” when referring to them, or even if it was used at all. He always believed that it did not matter about how “pure” a wizard’s blood was, but how pure their heart was.
Some of the qualities that made him a role model to some included his ability to stick at a problem, even when all odds were against him. The fact that he is also excellent at solving problems means that that quality is not in vain.
He is actually quite odd when he is alone, and is very fond of hats, and has a large collection. When confronted about his own past, he becomes reclusive, and tries to avoid the subject if possible.
Physical Description: Dylan’s facial composition is normal, yet unique. He has defined, yet curved cheekbones; a straight nose of average length and width; and a curved chin, with a jawline that curves back to his ears rather nicely. He has a high forehead, which he sports rather proudly, with his fringe gelled up; his light brown hair often short, and with tussled waves; and his facial hair is often kept as stubble – not so long that it is tickly or must be maintained like a very short beard, yet not so short that he has to shave it every day; he doesn’t feel he has the time in the mornings to shave it that much.
He carries himself rather proudly, keeping his shoulders high and broad; as they are naturally, actually; and with long strides. Originally this proud walk was a façade to cover the things that gave him away as an insecure or poor person when he started school in Hogwarts; however, over the course of a few months, it developed from a façade to his natural way of walking.
As for his dress sense, it is rather simple. When he was in Hogwarts, he had to wear second hand robes until he was in 5th year, when he received a set of spectacular prefect robes from the school. However, he was still used to wearing cheaper clothes that weren’t fancy or decorative, and for his life he always preferred wearing simple things, like white shirt and jean combos. Even these days, he can be found lounging in the staff room on a Saturday, with his nose stuck in a book, the Quibbler, or the clothes section of a catalogue looking for a new hat, wearing his usual satire; a white t-shirt, or a red and white checked shirt, worn with a pair of simple blue jeans, and a either a pair of Muggle Converse or Doc Martens; both coloured red.
Which brings us onto the next subject; Dylan’s hat collection. Dylan is a bit of an eccentric, and so he is bound to have at least one odd habit or hobby, and collecting hats is his. He has many hats, including a white Stetson with a black and red Murdercrow feather; the same hat worn by his favourite cow-wizard of the old west, which is still stained green from the time he was assailed by an outlaw with a broken wand; and a replica of the same pointed mages cap worn by the first Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot.

Special Talents: As a collector of antiques and hats, Dylan can easily and almost perfectly distinguish an original from a replica. He is also a bookworm, and is more than capable of reading multiple novels in one day. His excellent memory also allows him to quote those books, and he sometimes throws quotes from his favourite philosophers into random conversations. He is quite handy with Muggle tools, having learnt to use them as a child when he made his bookcase. A hobby of his is calligraphy, and because of this he also has can also have very neat, refined handwriting. He is good at acting, and proof of that is the façade he used, which seemed to make everyone think he wasn’t insecure at all.
RP Example:
Standing in the Entrance hall Dylan watched as a flood of students emerged from the great hall all heading of in different directions some out side in to the sunny grounds, others to their common rooms. A few waved as they passed others just glared and walked on by. The young professor sighed and fixed his plain black robes he had on. He knew it was going to take a while for the kids to get used to a new teacher. Walking briskly in to the hall he couldn’t help but smile. For a Saturday morning the school seemed to be in high spirits.
Taking his seat at the staff table, he helped him self to some toast and morning pumpkin juice. It felt strange to Dylan to be sitting up here. He peered out in to the long hall, watching students enter and leave. He remembered his days here. Smiling he watched a group of Hufflepuffs enter taking their seats to the right of the hall. He felt so old; he could remember it like yesterday when he had once sat at the Gryffindor table, looking up at the big staff one wishing that one day he could be sitting their. Laughing, he bit in to his toast. His wish had come true. He was now sitting at the staff table, as the new History of Magic teacher.
After draining the last dribbles of his goblet, Dylan left the great hall and headed back up the marble staircase. He still had a lot of unpacking and lesson planning to do. His first class was Monday and that was Fifth years. The hardest year of them all. They had their O.W.L.S this year, and it was Dylan’s job to teach them all well making sure they passed with Outstanding.
Making his way to his office on the fifth floor, Dylan pushed it open. Two trunks lay open in the middle of the floor. Books and parchment were scattered around the floor. He had a lot of things to do before Monday. Sitting himself down he pulled his lesson plans in front of him. He had a good feeling about this year; he couldn’t wait till fill eager little minds. Dipping his quill in to some ink he began to scribble away again, a grin spread across his face.
