ZUGDIDI - The world of magic took another sharp hit this afternoon when prominent businessman and Megrelian Aristocrat, Tazo Aghmashenabelis announced that he would support the Fleece-Flogging Movement (Satsmisi Tsema Modzraoba: STM) with monthly financial awards of 1,250 GEL or 160 galleons (800 GBP). Furthermore, the STM proudly announced that Mr. Aghmashenabelis's endorsement will be matched by the provincial Terror-Watch Guard in Mingreli Province.
Aighebuli reporter, Dato Qatamadze voiced the poignant fears of the severely oppressed magical community in Western Georgia in a private meeting with the newly appointed Georgian Minister of Magic in Qutaisi.
"The STM have made, now, good on their promise to exterminate all Witches and Wizards from Georgia. This cannot be done. We are already living on less than 5 lari a day [5 Sickles 1 Knut], our shops are frequently raided, looted and occasionally our women and daughters are dragged off to the military base in Senaki. This blatant violation of our hard fought human rights cannot go unchecked."
Minister of Magic, Beka Liparteliani, echoed the fragility of his government.
"We have not the strength to combat the Georgian Army. We need allies and for that we need to step out from under the rock and flex our magical muscles. The time for hiding and plotting is over. The time for retaliation has begun."
Such statements have, already, met with mixed support. Now a majority of Georgian Wizards and Witches register at 76% in favor of revolution, while a slim 15% also favor revolution but with the military aid of neighboring Ukraine and Russia. 7% believe merging with their oppressors is the route to go, shrugging off their magical identities, while a slim 3% believe exile to Greece, Turkey and the UK is the proper next step.
But the facts are staggering. There are 25,000 registered or known magical folk in Georgia, 17,000 living in the West. If the predicted numbers hold, some 750 Georgians will soon be scattered across Europe, adding to the scant 130 Georgians already living in the UK. Is this the United Georgian Republic we dreampt of and created back in 1991?
