Full Character Name: Gabriel Greene
D.o.B./Age: September 3, 1987 / 41
Place of Residency: London
Position Requesting: Agent - Department of Muggle and Magical Law Enforcement
Credentials: 15 years with the City of London Police, overlapping with 5 years with the DoMMLE
History: Born to Maria Delgado in Brooklyn, New York, Gabriel had a difficult childhood. He never met his father and his mother was usually missing in action, buying or selling drugs. He started getting into trouble early, following his older cousins around, letting them use him in their various schemes and crimes. He was a quick study, and learned pickpocketing and all kinds of hustling. At the age of 10, he went home in search of food after swindling some tourists in Times Square and found his apartment empty. He was able to find food for a few days, but it wasn't until then did he realize that his mother had at least done that much for him when she wasn't around. After missing school for more than two weeks at a time, Social Services finally caught up with him and placed him in a foster home. Gabriel was only there for a month when they came for him again, this time with a lady he actually knew. Ophelia Greene and his mother had been childhood friends, and she had been named his godmother when he was born. Ophelia gently told him that his mother had passed away in a drug deal gone violent, and that he would be living with her now. The boy's shock and grief only lasted a day or so; he knew the kinds of things that happened on the streets. If it hadn't been Maria, it might have been him instead. He hadn't had much of a relationship with his mother, and found that there was nothing special to remember her by.
Just when he thought he'd be able to get back to his routine, Ophelia told him that she actually lived in England. It didn't matter, it was just another set of streets to learn and a different pool of people to swindle. For the first few weeks, Ophelia let him explore on his own, leaving a plate of food out for him for when he came back every night, along with clean clothes for the next day. He learned the streets quickly enough, and taught himself to fake a decent accent in no time. One night at the end of the summer, Ophelia was waiting for him in his room, sitting on a chair by the window. They were awake until the sun rose when she made him pancakes, but after hours of shouting, crying, and eventually talking, he'd promised her he'd go to school.
School was awful for him at first; Gabe was severely behind on all his subjects and was frequently ridiculed by his classmates, which usually ended up in fistfights. It took a lot of work, but Ophelia used his own ego to keep him motivated, and basically shamed him into catching up and proving the other kids wrong. It turned out he wasn't only street smart, and little by little he had less reasons to kick someone or steal their phones. He and Ophelia developed a more trusting relationship as she continued to prove herself to be a dependable person, and keeping all her promises as long as he kept his. By the time he became of age, he graduated with excellent marks. Ophelia had surprised him with a trip to Germany, but his surprise was bigger and brought her to tears when he asked her to officially adopt him. He dropped his own last name, and changed it to Greene.
After turning 17 and being done with school, Gabriel didn't know what to do with himself, and Ophelia got him a job in construction with her brother Stewart while he figured things out. He became good friends with his 'uncle' and learned a lot on the job. One night after a long day, they grabbed a pint at the nearest pub, and he impressed Stewart as he pointed out a younger kid in the process of stealing a handful of items out of a woman's purse. The maneuver would have been completely missed if he hadn't known what to look for. Gabe stepped off his stool, and performed a different tactic that recovered the lost items, and he presented them to the woman, who thanked him for catching all the things she'd dropped. His laughed and told him he was sure the police force could use someone like him. They both laughed it off and went back to drinking.
In the following weeks, Gabe became very pensive and isolated, which worried Ophelia at first. He'd had a similar look when he'd done something bad or had crossed paths with drugs again. After speaking to her brother, she let her son dwell on it a little longer. One evening when coming home from work, Gabe found the application to the force he'd been thinking about. Flipping through the pages, he saw that his mum had already filled it out. All it needed was his signature.
Though he was rejected at first, Gabriel became an officer in the year 2010 at the age of 23. He proved himself to be a valuable asset in fighting local organized crime and drug distribution. He lead a successful career with a moderate ascension in the ranks as he dove into other aspects of the criminal world that not even he had seen as a child. White collar crimes, serial killing, political fraud; it was an eye opening process for him. He married a medical examiner in 2015, but unfortunately divorced two years later.
One night in 2020, Gabriel was making his way home form his mother's house, taking the scenic route, when he ducked behind a kissing couple to avoid someone handing things out. It was probably some gimmick to advertise a band or a new pub, and he just wasn't interested. Before he knew it, signs, chairs, and other large items around him were being destroy, the crowd started running and screaming, and Gabriel ran and tackled the first person he say point some sort of weapon at a table outside a nearby cafe. He heard a satisfying crunch when they hit the floor, but the person vanished from underneath him, leaving him stunned. Quickly recovering, he heard people calling out names of loved ones that had mysteriously disappeared.
For being an eyewitness, Gabriel was debriefed on the events that he remembered. He thought he sounded crazy talking about blue and orange flashes of light, people disappearing out of thin air. Of course, that was only until the news was officially broken. The attackers were witches and wizards, and they lived among us. That day, the Department of Muggle and Magical Law Enforcement was formed. Five years later, the book is still being written, jurisdiction is all over the place and usually assigned case by case, but they are no where closer to finding the group of witches and wizards that had broken one of their longest standing statutes. Gabriel and his tiny department investigate crimes with magical and muggle aspects along with the MLES.
Extra info: The Department of Muggle and Magical Law Enforcement is a separate entity funded partly by the City of London and INTERPOL. Their jurisdiction lies primarily in the London, but because of the ease of Wizarding travel, they are permitted to pursue suspects that appear outside of London with notification of the local police force. Gabriel and his partner Damian Ainsworth, are still ranked within the City of London, Inspector and Sergeant, respectively. Within this department, the 7 of them are referred to as Agent and are headed by Supervisory Agent Sarah Hughes. While their Department appoints only their own Agents to cases with the MLES, the MLES can appoint any Auror or team of Aurors with proficient knowledge of the Muggle society.
Personality Description: As an agent, Gabe is observant and proficient in the right environment. he is easily affected by those he comes into a daily basis. He's had to work under a couple of deplorable people, which brings out a bit of an insubordinate attitude in him. He knows where the lines are, and doesn't cross them, but knew how to throw dirt on them and make them blur. He didn't have a problem letting them know they were scum when they deserved it, and didn't bother trying to impress them. It might have cost him one or two timely promotions, but he's always been satisfied with the route his career has taken. His interrogation style is subtle, and he usually lets his partner take the lead when he looks and listens for discrepancies, looks for detail and hesitation. It took him a while to be confident in obtaining the right information during questioning, and still defers to other officers if he thinks they can do a better job. His strengths lie in handling and connecting evidence.
When he was given his current assignment, he tried his best to hide his reluctance to work with wizards from the shock of the news, but after sorting through all the ridiculous rumors and realized they were just humans, he settled in comfortably enough. He doesn't like the idea that they can read mind, change into animals (or that they can make zombies) and while he gets along with them just fine, there is always a small ounce of doubt in the back of his mind he just can't shake.
Outside of the office, Gabriel has mostly kept to himself. The only person he trusts without question is his mum, though he does have a handful of close friends. As a teen, he had a hard time believing he could accomplish anything significant, and Ophelia usually had to give him the extra push to even make an attempt. Since joining the force, he has found more confidence in himself, and if he feels like he doesn't have it, he pretends he does until it feels right. Every once in a while, he still needs Ophelia's final push. Though his less-than-reputable days are far behind him, he still recognizes opportunities to to lie, cheat and take advantage of the week. It's been many years since he's acted on it, but he finds it a little disturbing that it's still the first thing that comes to mind. He tries to use his past experiences as a tool to help others when he can.
Even though part of his childhood was saved by Ophelia, he doesn't really get along with children, especially the younger ones. He's uncomfortable with the idea of anyone being dependent on him, which was a contributor to the failure of his marriage. Being dependent one someone else is absolutely frightening, and he tries to keep himself out of situations that leave him at a disadvantage. Maria Delgado rarely crosses Gabriel's mind, but when she does, she doesn't inspire much emotion or nostalgia. Every couple of years Ophelia drags Gabe back to New York to visit his biological mother's grave, and she retells him stories of her childhood before she became the absent mother he knew her as. He keeps in touch with a few cousins every once in a while, but most of them have been incarcerated or have died.
As for Ophelia Greene, she continues to be a source of unending support. What began as her duty to protect her godson, became a strong bond with her adopted son. At his age, Gabriel feels guilty that he had been a deterrent in her love life, and now is on friendly terms with her new husband and always offers to house sit when they want to get away.
Physical Description: Gabriel had been underfed as a child, but Ophelia had gotten to him just in time to nurture the growth spurts that would bring him to stand at 6'1''. He sees keeping fit as one of his responsibilities of being an Agent, and works out whenever he can and keeps in form. His department is less strict on their appearance, so he usually wears a suit and tie instead of his uniform, and allows his facial hair to grow out just a bit. Gabe keeps his hair trimmed so he doesn't have to spend too much time on it, and has dark eyes with a medium complexion.
There is a scar on his forearm he got when he was a kid, running from someone who saw him steal food. He was also shot in the left shoulder while on duty, which aches a bit during the winter. Gabriel still understands the Spanish he heard as a child, and can hold his own in a conversation. Hints of Brooklyn linger on certain words in his vocabulary, but his natural speech sounds like a watered-down Londoner.

Special Talents: Gabriel has a good eye and ear for liars, and has a knack for getting the most out of the evidence in a case. He had started taking classes in Criminal Psychology before his schedule at work got hectic, so he has a working knowledge that helps him along with the instinct and familiarity he has.
RP Example: Rubbing his eyes in hopes of wiping away the exhaustion, the words on the report he was reading were starting to blur together. He'd learned about Legilimency and Occlumency a few years ago when he was given a crash course on the Magical World, and he'd first been given this assignment. He missed the older lady that had gone out on cases with him to interpret all the magical terms that were thrown his way; she was feisty, and he was pretty sure she'd given people loads of hell in her day. Juliet was the only witch he'd met so far that could call him a muggle, and manage to make it sound like an insult. His superiors had decided that he'd been in this department long enough to be well enough acquainted with the Wizarding folk; they were no longer paying someone to accompany their staff on cooperative cases with the Ministry of Magic. Sarah Hughes had ordered him and another agent to become proficient in what they were doing, and train the rest of the department. It was a frustrating task, but he couldn't say it was boring.
Dumping the report on his desk when someone walked in, he was glad the the distraction. The woman gave him a document to sign, which he did after close inspection, and handed him a small box. Opening the lid, he quickly counted the items and matched them with the list it came with. A wand, a watch, and a pair gloves (were those dragon skin?). Great. So now he had to play babysitter to this stuff until someone from the Ministry of Magic decided to show up and claim it. He really needed to revise some protocol around here if they were going to cut the staff. Dropping the box on the floor, he propped his feet on it and tried not to think about the immense report about wands he'd have to read next.
