The Thornton and Gutierrez families are two of the purest lines in North and Central America. When Mark Thornton and Dolores Gutierrez got married, pure-blooded society circles touted it as an excellent match. While the Thorntons agreed, though not for the same reasons, it was Dolores’s mother who expressed her extreme displeasure. Not only were the Thorntons gringos mugrientos, they were also some of the biggest blood traitors in the Western World. Despite her mother’s disapproval, Dolores Gutierrez became Dolores Thornton in the winter of 1987.
Mark and Lolly had a fairly normal and peaceful life, having two children a mere 22 months apart. Their first born, a daughter, was a lovely, sweet child, always doing what she was told and never causing her parents an ounce of worry. Their second child, a son, was rambunctious and inquisitive, getting himself into a number of scrapes before he could even walk properly. If it looked dangerous, created large amounts of noise, or could possibly give his mother a heart attack, there was a good chance Drew would want to try it. The Thorntons spent many nights in emergency rooms, both Magical and Muggle, dealing with the various mishaps Drew got into.
Drew lived most of his formative years in a high-upper-middle class Muggle neighborhood on the Pacific coastline just outside of Los Angeles. He had a normal upbringing, a somewhat sheltered life, but still managed to break out more than his older sister, daring to venture out on his own to make new friends and broaden his experiences. Though both sides of the family came from money, Mark and Dolores Thornton tried to raise their two children to be unassuming and considerate of others. For the most part, they succeeded. Even though the family could afford servants and had access to house-elves, Dolores took leave of her teaching career to run the house and both children were expected to chip in with household chores. Mark worked his way up in the MACUSA and eventually became Head of the International Transportation Department, West Coast Division. Both Drew and his sister grew up around Muggles and even attended Muggle schools until that day when they received their Hogwarts letters.
While Allegra had begged and pleaded to get permission to go to school overseas, Drew was not so thrilled to have to leave home and was especially upset about the idea of leaving the Pacific coastline. An avid surfer, Drew felt a connection to the ocean, so much that his mother often teased that he was really half merman.
In the end, Drew was told he had no choice… that he had to give it a chance and try it out for one year. Like his sister, he was sorted into Ravenclaw house, something he had secretly asked the Sorting Hat for in order to be with Allegra. Though he was already quite skilled in magic, he was determined to fake being a Squib and get thrown out of school within a month. His own plan backfired, and as he made friends and got to know his professors, he decided to stay. By the second semester of his first year, he made the decision to become an Auror, inspired by his Defense professor and Head of House.
Drew’s Defense professor became a sort of mentor to him and he could often be found in her office picking her brain or begging for books from her personal library to study. On other occasions, he could be found in her office under not so pleasant circumstances. Drew still had a knack for getting himself into scrapes that were considered dangerous, loud, or heart-attack inducing. The woman was known to remark that most of the grey in her hair is thanks to Drew.
The Thorntons had a long tradition of Quidditch excellence and Drew didn’t think twice before trying out for his house team. While it was never outwardly expected that Drew or his sister would play the sport, it is a great source of pride for the family that Drew made the starting line-up by the end of his first year. He worked hard both on the pitch and in the classroom, and during his fourth year, was given the position of Ravenclaw prefect.
Drew continued to work hard, focused on his goal to be an Auror. When a trusted professor was accused of being a dangerous Dark Wizard and removed from the school, Drew along with a number of other students were outraged at the very idea. With his OWLs right around the corner, Drew decided to contact the man in the hopes of getting some extra help. The man, who in actuality was the head of a Dark wizarding group, forcibly removed Drew from school grounds, took him to a secluded location and tortured him for information on a highly publicized crime attributed to this particular group of dark wizards. Drew refused to say anything, and before he was allowed to return to school, he was given a message: Dark days were ahead for those Wizards who had forgotten their bloodlines.
Drew became more determined than before and while he spent the next few months suffering through bouts of paranoia, by his sixth year he had scored well on all of his OWLs and was working towards his goal to become an Auror. It was also during his sixth year that he met Felicity Hjort, a pretty Gryffindor who was a year behind him. When Felicity ended up being tortured by the same man as he had been, Drew was distraught, but again upped his efforts to become an Auror and fight against injustice.
Drew was made Head Boy during his seventh year and continued to perform well in all of his classes. While he had some clashes with a few of the professors, the conflicts mostly stemmed from an injustice Drew felt had occurred. He is a hard worker, an avid researcher, and is determined to reach the goals he has set for himself. He is a self-motivated learner and mastered the Patronus charm by his fourth year. In his seventh year, he discovered the technique to becoming an Animagus and registered under the form of a medium sized brown bear.
After Hogwarts, Drew entered the Auror Academy, making sure he got up to Hogwarts as often as possible to see Felicity who was still at school. He was also a frequent visitor to Felicity’s parents’ house in London, spending time with Mrs. Hjort, who he started to see as a second mother. One of his best days was when she expressed her approval for that day in the future when he would ask Felicity to marry him. Unbeknownst to him at the time, Mrs. Hjort would never see that day. She passed away soon after and Felicity was forced to leave Hogwarts. Drew was happy to be closer to the love of his life, but it was short lived. Facing difficulties at home and being offered her dream job in Kenya, Felicity moved that summer while Drew had to stay behind in London to finish his training.
They managed to continue their relationship, flying back and forth to see each other as often as possible. As Drew finished up at the Academy, Felicity came home and took guardianship of her nephew Freddy. With plans already in the works to propose, but with Felicity concerned about how she would take care of a pre-teen wizard, Drew suggested they get married immediately. Felicity declined, knowing that a real proposal was coming. On November 19th, 2022, Drew proposed under the tree where he had fallen in love with her and they were married the following June.
While Drew worked his way up in the Auror Department and Felicity settled into her new position at Creatures' Corner Hospital, their small family grew. Kaleigh Rose was born on July 17, 2024 and Bradley David arrived on April 4, 2026. Their family grew even further when they opened their home to Jaimie Stark, a friend of Freddy’s. With two teenagers and two toddlers (and another on the way), he and Felicity are still looking forward to expanding their family and small farm. While Drew feels his job as an Auror is important, he thinks more and more of leaving the Ministry to raise winged horses.
Personality Description:
Drew is generally outgoing and friendly, polite and hard-working. He has a huge competitive streak and a sometimes annoyingly persistent desire to “fix” things that have gone wrong, often making things worse, especially when it comes to dealing with girls. He is conscientious and will do his best at any given task, even if he’s not too thrilled about actually doing it. He is a loyal friend and will do just about anything in his power for the people he cares about.
Drew likes to put on a show, act silly, and play the fool. Many people find him obnoxious but it’s only his closest friends who get to see his insecure, sensitive side. He worries over small things and is highly concerned about the safety and well being of others. He knows he’s bigger and stronger than many and feels it’s his duty to help people, sometimes becoming over-protective when it’s someone he is especially close to. He takes his given responsibilities very seriously, but often wonders if he really is actually capable and not just becoming full of himself.
Never one to show all of his cards at once, Drew has gotten even more suspicious of others since his kidnapping. He will sometimes get jumpy and nervous when put into certain situations, but he’s slowly discovering how to differentiate between something to really be concerned about and just his nerves getting the best of him. Even so, it takes him a while to even marginally trust people.
While some consider Drew to be a troublemaker, he considers himself more of a trouble-finder. He doesn’t think he goes out of his way to cause problems, even though some of his schemes aren’t always appreciated by certain authority figures. It is because of this, that his discipline record may not be the cleanest, but at the same time it is well known that he would never knowingly put others in danger. He’s not afraid to take a risk, but will back down if he feels someone will get hurt in the process. While he is generally respectful and easy-going, he will fight tooth and nail if he feels something is unjust or unfair, even if the decision does not affect him personally one way or another.
Physical Description:
Height: 6’8”
Weight/Build: medium athletic build
Skin Tone: lightly tanned
Hair Color and Style: medium brown, usually worn short. Curls when it gets longer
Eye Color: blue, often wears glasses, especially to read or drive
Personal Scent: Aloe/mint soap (aka: Zest), the forest after a rainstorm, sunscreen, and ocean breeze
The first thing you notice about Drew is his height. While there might be some people out there who are instantly intimidated by his size, more often than not it’s his baby face that offsets any unease. It takes him a good week and a half to work up a good stubble and his younger-than-he-is appearance often contributes to him not being taken as seriously as he’d like. He usually sports a smile that tends to go up higher on the left side of his face than it does on the right and his bright blue eyes often hint at some sort of tease he’s planning. He has a smattering of freckles on his nose and a number of scars on his body from various injuries he has incurred over the years, most of which aren’t very noticeable unless attention is drawn to them.
Long and lean and athletically built, he doesn’t outwardly appear like a guy who’s swung a beater’s bat most of his life. He keeps fit, enjoying Quidditch, basketball, and surfing, but really isn’t concerned about getting, much less keeping, that elusive six-pack. Preferring to spend his time outdoors, he usually sports a tan which has faded considerably since he moved to Great Britain. While he preferred to wear his sandy brown hair shorter when he was younger (in an attempt to keep his curls at bay) over the past year he has let it grow out, but still keeps it neat. He’s been told that his blue eyes are one of his best assets, but he doesn’t believe it, especially since he’s been wearing his glasses more and more lately.

Special Talents:
Drew is a fast and avid learner; able to pick up difficult concepts easily… unless it has to do with girls… then he’s pretty hopeless. Other than matters that deal with the opposite sex, he can usually pick up a book or see something done, and be able to explain or do it himself. He is determined to do well in everything he tries and will research a topic or practice a task until he feels he has mastered it.
Drew can be quite tenacious. If he wants something badly enough, he’ll do anything he can get away with to achieve it. Willing to bend rules and push boundaries, his stubbornness has gotten him into trouble more than once. He will tend to fuss over minute details and has made more than a few people upset with his tendency to debate or question ideas.
Some of his other talents include wandwork, swimming, Quidditch, and wedging his size 16 shoe into his mouth. He is a registered Animagus, but rarely uses this particular talent. He’s a good dancer, a fairly competent, self-taught drummer, and rumor has it that he’s a pretty good kisser. While he is a decent roller-blader, he can’t ice skate to save his life.
RP Example:
His plan was working better than he had hoped. Okay, it hadn't been all that hard waking up disoriented and scared, but even he was pleased with how well he had kept the pathetic kid act up even when it looked like they weren't going for it. His hands had been left untied and now he had been allowed a few moments in a room full of possibilities.
He went through the designated door and locked it behind him, checking through his options. The one small window was a possibility, but his captors would definitely be alerted by the breaking glass. He could easily jam the door and gain a little more time, but it wouldn't do much. The good news was he knew he was on the second floor of a house in Hogsmeade, somewhere in the vicinity of Dervish and Banges. A second floor jump had a 90% chance of landing without broken bones. From the third floor, the odds reversed.
He heard a gentle tapping on a door downstairs. Another person would make things more difficult. He'd have to work quickly. He let out a loud sniff as evidence that he was still very upset as he tried to work out an escape plan and he turned on the water tap full force to cover any noise he made as he quietly rummaged through the drawers and cupboards, looking for something he could use.
One minute… That’s all he had.
As someone went down stairs to answer the door, he thought it was the opportune moment. He had come across the standard things one would find in a bathroom, most fairly harmless. He had focused on some of the more potent cleaning potions. They tended to be flammable and Mrs. Scower's Magical Mess Remover was no exception. He grabbed a shower cap and stuck it inside the half-full bottle, creating a little holding sack at the neck.
A heat source was next and that would come from the bottle of Pepper-up Potion on one of the top shelves. That particular potion created a heat reaction to kill the germs and make that neat steam effect that wasn't so neat when it was your ears it was coming from. He poured as much of the cold remedy as he could in his make-shift pouch before stoppering it with the handle of a hairbrush.
It was a crude bomb, but one he was confident would work and he placed it carefully on the window ledge. With any luck, it would blow a big enough hole through the wall so that he wouldn't have the problems he had had in the greenhouse.
The water was still running and he soaked all of the towels before jamming them around the door frame, hopefully creating some resistance to it being opened. He stuck a hairpin into the lock, hopefully jamming that up as well, and stuck the plunger to the tile floor creating a makeshift doorstop.
Last step was to crawl into the bathtub, cover himself with the bathmat... and give a good, hard magical push down on the hairbrush detonator. The handle would rip through the shower cap, allow the two potions to mix and...

BOOM!
